My Journey

A Kansas Quilter

Who Am I?

I grew up in a small town in Kansas. (No, my name is not Dorothy and my dog’s name was Pig!) I only left to follow my husband across the world as he served in the Army. We came back to that same small town and I was a stay at home mom until my children entered high school. Looking back I can see we were desperately poor, but it didn’t seem so at the time. We were buying our 100 year old house that always needed repairs, shared a huge garden with a friend that fed our family and faithfully attended church with our many friends. We had a very good life. When the Iraq war (#2) came along and my husband was called up, I decided it was time for me to go back to school. I got my degree and went to work. I have had several jobs as a middle school teacher and as an administrative assistant at a retirement home, a funeral home and a warehouse. What does this have to do with quilting? While I was living my life, I was creating baby quilts for everybody.

I have created quilts for over 30 years. I can’t say how many baby quilts I made, but it is certainly more than 100. Most of them I hand quilted with a hoop. Making quilts started as a way to create a special gift made from leftover children’s dress material and lots of sweat equity, but quilting soon became a joy and collecting material a passion. Over the years I have developed a motto – every baby deserves their very own blanket.

I had long wanted to make a queen quilt for each of my children, but the daunting task of hand quilting a queen put me off. About six years ago I asked my co-worker what it would cost to use her quilting machine to make a queen size quilt for a friend who was getting married. She joyfully said I could do it for free. She helped me do one quilt, teaching me how to use her machine. I knew that if given the opportunity I would never hand quilt again!

She helped me find a $500 industrial sewing machine, much like hers, on Craig’s List. The machine didn’t work when I looked at it, but we bought it and the sturdy built 12 ft quilting rack and hauled it home. My amazing husband fixed the sewing machine. I could machine quilt!

Now I had an opportunity to try many patterns and create quilts in much less time than it took before. I made bed-sized quilts for all my children and the baby quilts started to pile up.  I decided that now was the time to do what I have wanted to do for  30 years…sell my quilts.

It wasn’t quite as simple as it sounded. Like many of you, Covid-Time taught me about priorities and made me look at my life choices. They were good ones for the most part, but now I’ve committed to do this thing that I’ve been wanting to do for so long.

So I’m ready. I’m ready to make you that quilt you have in your heart. To create that perfect gift for your child or grandchild. To take that quilt that you made and put it together so you can put it on your bed and make your heart happy. Call me! Let’s talk.

Our Company

Quilting is my passion. I love choosing colors to create a useful work of art for my home and yours. Ours is a family affair. My daughter also quilts and together we create the quilts and then I finish it off by machine quilting the final product. My other two daughters, who are also crafty, often chime in with their (valued!) opinions. My son is technical support and my husband is invaluable at craft fairs as my roadie and is always my encourager and support.

Our Team

My daughter Amanda and I create all our quilts. It is a joy to work with someone so talented and is always pushing me to the next level.
